February Newsletter

HND Youth Yard Sale-There are things that we have laying around the house that we don’t use any more. That doesn’t mean we are bad people; we just have a lot of stuff. Do you want to get rid of that stuff? Well, we sure have a place for you. On May 9, we will be having our 2nd annual Youth Group Yard Sale. If you have any things that you want to give away, you can bring it to the HND. We have lots of storage in the back! Also, plan to help at the Yard Sale too. We need people to set up, take down, and help selling things as well. It’s never too early to give some “Stuff” for the Yard Sale!

Demolition Ball- If you missed this last year, this is an event you don’t want to miss this year! We are going to St. Charles to play Demolition Ball on March 1st from 3-5 PM. We will meet at church at 3 PM and get back to Church by 5 PM.
What is Demolition Ball anyways? It is a combination of bumper cars, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, and kickball (except for that last one…). It is a great time with friends, and you get to have a chance to run your youth director down with a bumper car. Sweet!

Parents: if you want to go, let Jim know. This is an adult-friendly activity to do as well.

The sign-up sheet is on the middle school bulletin board. You need to be signed and paid by Feb. 22. NO EXCEPTIONS! Bring your friends to this…it will be exciting!

Attention 5th-7th Graders!- On Feb. 8, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Party! It will be in the Fellowship Hall Sunday afternoon at 2 PM. There will be prizes, food, and some time to create your own Valentines for your parents! Please contact Carol Reustle at (636)-373-0873 for more information.

Murphy's Law

According to our friends at Wikipedia, Murphy's law is an adage in Western culture that broadly states, "if anything can go wrong, it will." With that being said, it has been feeling like that lately.  Last weekend, whenever we had our September monsoon, I had to drop a Benjamin (that means $100) to get a new sump pump for our basement. Then, today, after dropping off Eli at the daycare in Troy, I try to start up the mighty Focus and the battery died.  Another Benjamin later, we have a fixed car.

Now, I can sit here and be like, "Woe is me!  I have wasted 200 bucks on things that people take for granted on a daily basis.  WAAA!!!"  Or, I could be grateful enough that a lady that didn't even know us drove us home from the daycare, so we can pick up the HHR.  Or, I could be grateful that we had the 200 bucks to spend on those emergencies.  So, I am EXTREMELY grateful and my family is blessed.

Don't let Murphy's Law ruin your day.  Think about all of the wonderful lives we live.  It is all because of Jesus.

2 Samuel 22:47
Live, God! Blessing to my Rock, my towering Salvation-God! This God set things right for me and shut up the people who talked back. He rescued me from enemy anger. You pulled me from the grip of upstarts, You saved me from the bullies. That's why I'm thanking you, God, all over the world. That's why I'm singing songs that rhyme your name.

Sunday Night Thoughts Episode 1

Hey everyone!

So, I am going to start something new...it's called "Sunday Night Thoughts."  It will be a collection of things that are going on in my life, as well as updates on what is going on with our Youth Ministry.  So...here's Volume 1!

What am I looking forward to this next week: Hmm...there is nothing popping out of my head right now.  Work, school and Youth Group have been a balancing act for me lately, so maybe looking foward to relaxing a little bit more.

What am I not looking forward to this next week:  So, I have been taking master's level classes on Thursday night at Ft. Zumwalt South.  This is how the schedule goes:
3 PM-Leave Warrenton
3:25-Pick up Eli in Troy
3:45-Leave Troy after stopping by the house and letting our dog out
4:30-Arrive at FZS, handing off Eli to grandparents (it switches every other week...my parent's and then Amy's)
9 PM-Leave FZS, hopefully having dinner in between all of that and going to pick up Eli
10:30ish-Arrive at home.

Can you understand why I am not looking foward to this?

Youth Ministry Update: We have HND going on these next few weeks.  On Saturday, Sept. 27, we are going to do a "Pizza and Movie" night.  I am trying to get us in on Oct. 1 to go to the Salvation Army to help out in their kitchen.  That night is a Wednesday; so instead of going to the HND, we would meet at church and then drive down to St. Charles.  We would be back in Warrenton by 8 PM anyways.

What am I listening to right now: 42 By Coldplay.  Good stuff.

Have a blessed week everybody.  Peace

Jim

School's Back in Session

Hey everyone...

Just letting you know that the first week of school is over! It is truly hard getting over that first week. I think it is all boring with the student handbook and what not.
Anyways, I just want to throw out a "school work" assignment for all of you guys out there. Think about one person that you think could truly benefit having a Christ-centered group like what we have at College UMC. Then, see if they will come along with you to something that we do. For example, how cool would it be to invite your friends for some barbecue and watching movies @ the HND? Or even better, we are going to Sky Zone here on Sept. 7. That would be a great way just to introduce one of your friends to our group.
Pray for that friend. I will be praying for you guys. Let's don't hold back on something amazing that we already know...God's amazing love for us. Let's spread it to the world. Let me know how everything is going.

Peace
Jim
